Today, students were introduced to the important vocabulary for our unit on Mesopotamia. During this lesson, students activated their background knowledge while working in groups to match various vocabulary terms with their definitions. After we discussed the correct definitions, students were assigned the Mesopotamia Vocabulary Flipbook project that will be due on Friday, November 1.

Today, students participated in an activity designed to simulate the process of how early humans chose locations to permanently settle in one location. By examining and analyzing various map, students were able to determine whether or not their locations were an ideal location for settling down. Students then used this information to write a short paragraph explaining whether their location was a good or bad, and why.
Today, students had a guest speaker from the Spurlock Museum. During this presentation, students examined various artifacts from Mesopotamia, and worked in small groups to gain a better understanding about what these artifacts tell us about life during this time period. Students had the chance to learn about how the Mesopotamians wrote, and were able to take a shot at writing in Cuneiform. There was no homework assigned tonight.
Today, student went to the computer lab to sign into their Google accounts and set up a classroom folder for each of their classes. Students now have access to any digital document they create using this account, and they have access to a variety of powerful educational apps throug
Today, students worked in small groups to complete a reading on the earliest humans and theories about how these people migrated through out the world. There was no homework assigned tonight.
Today, students finish viewing Iceman Murder Mystery and taking notes about Otzi. They also examined and discussed some of the latest scientific findings that have been published about the research into what has happened since the autopsy of Otzi. Tomorrow, students will be completing a RAFT writing assignment in which they will take on the persona of a homicide detective and write a homicide report that explains whether or not their is enough evidience to rule Otzi's death a homicide. The was no homework assigned tonight.
Today, students began to examine another source about Otzi the Iceman, the Nova documentary Iceman Murder Mystery. While viewing the documentary, students looked for evidence that suggested that Otzi was murdered. Students will be finishing the last part of the video tomorrow, where we will look at how scientists were able to reconstruct the last meal of Otzi, and what it has been able to tell us about the foods consumed by early Neolithic peoples. Today we migrated from the classroom to the computer lab to examine Otzi the Iceman in more detail. During our time in the lab, students went on a webquest to gather more information about what scientists have been able to learn about Otzi. Otzi the Iceman Today, students began a week long murder mystery investigation. We are opening up the 5,000 year old cold case (no pun intended) of Otzi the Iceman. Students will spend the week examining and analyzing a variety of different sources of information about the life and times of Otzi. Students will then synthesize this information into a short writing assignm (police report) that explains what happened to Otzi. Reminder, today marks the beginning of 2nd Quarter and parent teacher conferences are coming up on Thursday, Oct. 24 and Friday, Oct. 25. Be on the look out for sign-up sheets coming home with your students this week.
